Men on Board Ships of the Atlantic Fleet Bound for the Pacific: December 16, 1907

Auxiliaries: Arethusa

USS Arethusa was a steam tanker in the US Navy. She was originally purchased by the Navy during the Spanish-American War tp provide water for American warships operating near Havana, Cuba.

She then furnished water and supplies to American warships near the Philippine Islands and, in 1901, delivered relief supplies to Guam.

The ship next provided water to ships of the Atlantic Fleet. She left Virginia and proceeding down the Atlantic coast of South America, she rounded Cape Horn and to Hawaii. She was then reassigned to Pacific Fleet.

During World War I, Arethusa carried oil from the New York Navy Yard to the Azores where she issued it to destroyers and submarines.
