Jaquett, Andrew Dutton Biography

Andrew Dutton Jaquett, second son of Thomas B. (q. v.) and Margaret (Dutton) Jaquett, was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, August 1, 1867. He attended the public schools of Uniontown, and when a small boy began working about his father's foundry during hours out of school, becoming an expert molder while yet young. After leaving school he worked regularly as a molder in the foundry. He continued as his father's assistant until the cleath of the latter in 1905, then became proprictor. This is the old Union Foundry, established by Eleazer Robinson, and the place where Thomas B. Jaquett learned the molder's trade and later became its owner, bringing up his two sons, Nathaniel H. and Andrew D., in the business, and qualifying then to become his successors. Nathaniel H. forsook the foundry on the death of his father, leaving the business to be continued by his brother, Andrew D. Jaquett, who has made it an important and profitable Uniontown enterprise, He is a Republican in politics, and has served as assessor, and as a member of the central county committee. He is a member, as is his wife, of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, and fraternally is an Odd Fellow and a Woodman. He resides at No. 40 Union street, where he purchased a house, March 14, 1908.

He married, March 4, 1897, Lena Rebecca Metzger, born August 6, 1873, in Summerfield, Somerset county, Pennsylvania, daughter of Marcus M. and Mary Catherine (Willey) Metzger. Marcus M. Metzger was born at Mans Choice, Bedford county, Pennsylvania, February 10, 1837. He is a weaver by trade, and had a woolen mill of his own in Iowa at one time, but was for many years a weaver in Allegheny City Mills. He now resides at Parnassus, Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania. He and his wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal church. Mary Catherine Willey was born November 5, 1848, in Summerfield, Somerset county, Pennsylvania, in the house that later was the birthplace of her daughter Lena Rebecca. Children of Marcus M. and Mary Catherine (Willey) Metzger: 1. Bessie, married John Amend, a carpenter and and contractor of Polk, Pennsylvania. 2. May, married Woods B. Royaling, a carpenter of Huntington, Pennsylvania. 3. Lena Rebecca (of previous mention) wife of Andrew D. Jaquett. 4. Helen, married Dr. Clarence Johnson, of Springdale, Pennsylvania. 5. John, a barber at Urbana, Ohio; married Margaret Champion, of Bolivar, Pennsylvania. 6. Harriet, married Dr. Ray McDowell, of Freeport, Pennsylvania. 7. Lillian, residing at the family home in Parnassus, Pennsylvania.

Children of Andrew D. and Lena Rebecca Jaquett: Marcus M., born October 27, 1900; Mary Catherine, February 13, 1903; Emma Elizabeth, twin of Mary Catherine.
