Captain H. C. CHRISTESON Biography

Captain H. C. Christeson was born March 25, 1825, along the banks of the present Kiel Canal, then under the kingdom of Denmark. He was a sailor for 21 years, attaining to Captain, circumnavigating the globe three successive times; was a spectator at the removal of the remains of Napoleon to Paris, was in California in the gold excitement 1849 and 1857, had a most eventful experience, such as befalls but few mortals. in a great storm in the China Sea he fell from the mast of his ship and shattered the bone in his left leg. Through this he settled in Pine Grove in 1859 and in company with the late Chas. Molly was engaged in the mercantile business in the building now occupied by Joseph Schwalm. Later in 1879 he removed to Suedberg where he built the present store and hotel. He is buried on the Lutheran Cemetery at Pine Grove. He had two sons and three daughters: Charles connected with a firm of Philadelphia; George, an official in the employ of the Missouri Pacific Railroad; Miss Louisa who resides on the old homestead at Suedberg. Charles is the father of Charles M. Christeson, a resident of Pine Grove, who is married to Miss Olive, oldest daughter of John Sutton, the druggist, and is connected with his father in the wholesale business in Philadelphia.
